Codependency is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the mental health field. Expressing it accurately has been challenging, but the definitions I rely on are:
“Letting another person’s behavior affect you, and becoming focused on controlling that person’s behavior and its effect.”
“Losing our Self in another person.”
“Changing or adjusting ourselves to how we interact with others to fulfill whatever role we believe they need.”
Traditional approaches to healing codependency can inadvertently pathologize the condition, which can then create levels of shame, guilt, and a sense of being less-than.
IFS begins by appreciating that we have parts of us who have responded in varying degrees to internalized messages from our families, communities, or culture, that may no longer be helpful to our well-being. These parts have created protective mechanisms that at one time may have been beneficial, but over time, become less helpful.
In this 6-week psychotherapy group we will:

BREATH SERIES

Knowing the mechanics of your breath is a game-changer. The first session covers vital information that will form the foundation for the next three sessions! We will discuss the origins of breath techniques and the research that has been conducted on the power of breath to heal the brain.

This session covers some basic and powerful breath techniques that are known to help reduce cravings, and support focus and attention.

This session moves from the basic to intermediate techniques that supports the parasympathetic nervous system and reduces negativity, and anxiety. Calming, peaceful, centering.

Bringing all the techniques together we will experience the power of breath to change our entire being, connecting us with Self, and our Higher Power.
MEDITATION SERIES

If you have ever struggled with the idea of meditation but have heard how helpful it is for recovery, this series is for you! We will learn the mechanics of what meditation is, and is not.

A short discussion, followed by a guided meditation session that will connect you to a deep sense of calm, centered, compassionate energy within. Question and answer session, followed by a second meditation experience.

We will learn the research behind what has made meditation so popular. We will engage in a meditation session that will bring you closer to your Self and your Higher Power.

In this final session we bring together our learning over the course of four weeks and immerse ourselves in a deep and spiritual experience.
SOUND HEALING

Sound healing is not just about crystal bowls. Sound comes from within, and without. We will learn the mechanics of sacred sounds and how we can connect with sound in our day-to-day lives.

An evening of exploring sound from within. We will engage in chants that range from Benedictine Monasteries to the foothills of the Himalayan mountains.

A full yoga-nidra session of deep relaxation with accompanying Tibetan bowls, and brain wave sound.

In our last session the group will enjoy the fullness of creating sound, experiencing the joy of a collective sound journey.
